Paris Day Trip: Versailles
You can read my full blog post about spending two weeks in Paris here.
I would say if the weather is bad, or if you can only visit on a weekend, it’s absolutely not worth going to Versailles — by far the best part was wandering the gardens and enjoying the interiors without anyone else around. But the gardens were gorgeous, and if you already have a Paris Museum Pass, it’s worth considering a visit.
Here’s how my day went:
7:15AM: Leave the house, take the 8 Balard from Filles du Calvaire to Invalides, transfer to the RER C to Versailles (leaves at 7:48, arrives at 8:18AM, 10 min walk to the palace.
8:20AM: Arrive at Versailles for 9AM ticket
9AM: Versailles opens (tips here), and I was first person in hall of mirrors. I finished walking through the palace by 9:45AM.
9:45AM: Walked through palace gardens behind the palace, and then rented a bike and bikes around the outside of the park
11:30AM: Had a relaxing lunch at one of the overpriced and fine restaurant near the bikes and boats in the middle of the gardens.
12PM: Biked over to Marie Antoinette chateau
1:45PM: Returned bike, walked back to the train station through Versailles town
3PM: Arrived back in Paris
Here are some photos from my day:
