Paris Day Trip: Giverny
You can read my full blog post about spending two weeks in Paris here.
In some ways Giverny was not at all what I expected. There’s a highway with trucks running through the middle of Monet’s gardens. It’s not open at sunrise or sunset when the gardens would be prettiest. The website where you buy tickets seems kind of scammy.
But! Despite those caveats, looking back at these photos, I’m actually very glad I went. The gardens really are gorgeous, and the bright (if recently-painted) colors in the house were spectacular.
I took the train to the town near Giverny and then rented a bike at the train station. I was hoping for a pretty ride but it was honestly it was tricky to navigate the streets of the town and then desolate and uninteresting on the stretch from town to Giverny. If I went again, I would hop on the tour bus along with everyone else.
I arrived about an hour before it closed and snapped most of these photos in the 15-30 minutes before it closed. I wanted to avoid tourists and get the prettiest afternoon light, which I think I achieved well enough.
