Paris Day Trip: Normandy
You can read my full guide to two weeks I spent in Paris here.
I ended up going to Normandy on a whim and it was one of my favorite things I did in France. I would even say if you’re spending a week in Paris, it’s worth spending one of those days in Normandy — it’s a wonderful break from the city and if you love history, it’s essential.
I wanted someone to give historical context to bring Normandy alive and I was on a short timeframe, so a guided tour made sense in this situation. I went with Overlord Tour because they had next-day availabilities and they were excellent. Make sure to select one of the tours that leave from Paris (they’ll tell you what trains to book to get there on time). But Rick Steves mentions a couple tour guide options in his guidebook including Overlord and I’m sure they’re all similarly good.
It was a long day trip from Paris — I took a 7AM train and I got home past 9PM. But I’ll never forget seeing the cliffs at Normandy, the tiny French towns where battles took place, or the endless American cemetery. I’m so glad I went.
